To experiment the synthetic teaching method, 2 classes were selected in which 15-week lessons were conducted. A significant difference was found in the post-t-test, that is, the experiment class showed an increase by 7 points in the academic achievements compared to the pre-test while the comparison class featured little change. Higher scores were recorded in the post-test for interest and self-confidence than in the pre-test.
From the post-test for academic achievement, the experiment class was found to improve by 11 points while the comparison class revealed 7-point increase only. From the questionnaires concerning the interest and self-confidence in the class, more than 90% of positive responses came out in such items as the difference between the conventional and synthetic classes, between the conventional and web-based class, and the contribution of the web-based synthetic class to English study. Extremely positive responses were also drawn from the descriptive forms of replies.
Sacrificial efforts and will of teachers are first of all required for the successful realization of the web-based synthetic English teaching method. For this purpose, it is necessary to provide English teachers with the textbooks that have been developed under the new outlines of instructions. It is further requested to construct various multimedia environment for teachers, expand their opportunities for training in this field, establish and operate flexible curricula.
